REGISTER AND JOIN THE FENCING COMMUNITY
If you are interested in Fencing, the first step is to find a Club nearby, speak to the coach, try it out for a month (you'll love it!), then join the Club by paying their Club Fees. Group and individual lessons are generally available at all clubs, at various rates.
GFA runs 3 Ranking competitions during the year when points for provincial colours are accrued, with the Closed Championship towards the end of the year being a compulsory element. All fencers who want to compete in National ranking competitions and would like to be considered for selection to national teams to represent the country in international competitions MUST be a member of FFSA - the Fencing Federation of South Africa.
So in addition to Club fees for training and GFA fees of R350 for provincial membership, there is the FFSA membership fee of R450 should you want to compete in the Annual Opens in one or more provinces.
Fencers MUST ensure that their Club Administrators confirm their membership on the Entry Forms when entering for a national competition. National competitions are the Open / Provincial competition in each fencing province, as well as the Junior and Senior National Championships.
For FIE membership fencers who are selected for national teams must please contact the National Team Manager, who will apply for and issue them once all other paperwork has been completed eg your bio details / summary and photograph.
FIE licences are compulsory for ALL international competitions such as African Champs and the World Cups etc.
Apart from paying your club for lessons, you do not need to pay any monies to fence, just if you want to take part in fencing competitions. Fencing enthusiasts, parents, supporters etc who do not want to fence are welcome at all competitions.
